Hawaii businesses — large and small — have gotten 169 products added to store shelves and other displays in isle military commissaries after the 15th annual American Logistics Association Hawaii Show.
In addition to new deals with existing vendors, products from 11 new companies were picked up this year, according to a spokeswoman.
From Oahu, the new companies’ products include miso soup mixes from Mishima Foods USA Inc.; gluten-free mixes from Prime Source Sales and North Shore Goodies LLC; green tea powder mixes from Hawaii To Go and Green Tea Hawaii; honey from Hawaiian Rainbow Bees LLC; and acai berry juice from Kahuna Distribution LLC.
Representing the Valley Isle will be natural and gluten-free snacks by Emerald Kitchen LLC doing business as Chic Naturals, and beef jerky from Maui Cattle Co. LLC.
Nutritional supplements from Hawaii island’s Nutrex Hawaii Inc. will be added, while fruity condiments by Auntie Lilikoi Products and seasonings by Salty Wahine will represent Kauai.
After a successful debut at the Made in Hawaii Festival a couple of years back, sauces and marinades by Molokaiz Backside Boyz Teri Sauce LLC will represent the Friendly Isle.
Some 80 companies displayed and sampled their wares at the ALA show Aug. 22 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel. The purpose of the business-to-business show is to give Defense Commissary Agency buyers the chance to taste-test local products and meet business owners as they consider lines to add to commissaries.
More than 166,000 military-connected shoppers use Hawaii’s commissaries, making that business “a significant market for Hawaii companies,” said Sharon Zambo-Fan, ALA Hawaii Conference chairwoman. The Defense Commissary Agency has now placed 2,092 local products in commissaries, with some selling in commissaries around the world, Zambo-Fan said.
